A wildlife friendly garden

This amazing space belongs to a very busy couple who really needed some direction. Clients often don’t know where to start and with a very large garden it can become a little overwhelming. They wanted a garden they could relax in, that would be great for wildlife and that they could pretty much build themselves. I just needed to design it.

An expanse of field, just right for a large wildlife pond and a perennial meadow with fruit trees!

Some ideas for the planting. Near the house the planting will be more ornamental and as it’s a country garden surrounded by fields, all the plants should sit comfortably in the landscape.

This is the survey drawing. All designs start with one of these as you have to know what’s there before you can start to make changes.

There’s a fabulous view across the garden and through that hedge. I’ve sited the secluded seating area so you can enjoy that view.

This scale drawing is the design for the garden. It’s a concept design, so when the clients are ready I can provide more detailed drawings as needed.

Further away from the house, the planting becomes looser and more naturalistic.

There’s plenty of room for low maintenance shrubs. These will provide seasonal interest, and food and shelter for wildlife.
