The front and back gardens are on multiple levels and this can feel like a real problem to clients. The view from the house was of this dark wall, which also made the upper level narrow. As it caught the sun and was a place to sit and relax, I wanted to make a real feature of the space. My design reflects this, particularly at the front. All the turf is replaced with gravel and planting - larger boarders of low maintenance shrubs deal with the slopes in a far more cost effective way than levelling the ground. They now have a picture and a plan for how to start the work. The curving path that takes you through the garden will have an occasional step or two and will be easier to build - and a lot less expensive - than building retaining walls and levelling the ground. They were fast movers, but Martyn became known at the ‘frog wrangler’, carefully catching them in a plant pot and taking them to safety. They are now finding their way back to the new pond.
